ARDUOUS 2024: Shaping the Future of User Data Annotation for Ubiquitous Systems

The 8th International Workshop on Annotation of useR Data for UbiquitOUs Systems (ARDUOUS 2024) is set to take place on September 24, 2024, in Wiesbaden, Germany, and virtually. This exciting event brings together academia and industry researchers and practitioners to tackle the challenges and innovations in user data annotation, with a focus on transparency, compliance, and human-centered approaches.

ARDUOUS 2024 will delve into the current regulatory environment, addressing potential risks associated with automated decision-making and data analysis. The workshop aims to translate academic research methodologies into practical policies and practices that can be easily implemented, ultimately benefiting the transparency of AI systems. By fostering interactive discussions, the workshop aims to develop a roadmap that will be published and integrated into existing and upcoming research data management and analytics initiatives within and beyond Germany.

Topics of interest for this year’s workshop include experiences in developing, validating, and sharing data annotation protocols, ensuring compliance with GDPR and the AI EU Act, human-centered and human-in-the-loop approaches, characterizing annotation forms for specific sectors, low-resource annotation workflows, and annotation metrics. Furthermore, general annotation-related topics will also be discussed, such as methods and intelligent tools, standardization, influence of interface, annotation processes, automation, annotation quality, semantic annotation, high-quality and re-usable annotation, system performance, classifier models, annotator modeling, transfer learning, and handling semantic and temporal shift.

Submissions should follow the provided templates and guidelines, with paper length proportional to contribution. Accepted papers will be published in the GI-Edition Lecture Notes in Informatics under a Creative Commons BY-SA 4.0 license. The review process is single-blind, and at least one author must register and present the paper during the workshop, either virtually or in person.

Join us in shaping the future of user data annotation at ARDUOUS 2024, part of the INFORMATIK FESTIVAL 2024 in Wiesbaden, Germany, and virtually. Don’t miss this opportunity to engage in insightful discussions, learn from experts, and contribute to the development of practical policies and practices in the field.
