The Centre for Translation Studies at University of Surrey presents the next Convergence Lecture Series. Professor Susan Hunston will discuss ‘Pattern, Construction, System: Reconciling approaches to lexis and grammar’ on 29 October at 14:00 GMT.

The lecture will describe a project reconciling Pattern Grammar, Construction Grammar, and Systemic Functional Grammar, with examples and system networks showing how constructions contribute to semantic fields.

Professor Susan Hunston is Professor of English Language at the University of Birmingham. Her recent book, ‘Pattern, Construction, System: a unified approach to grammar and lexis’ (2025: Cambridge University Press), is available Open Access.
