Junior Professorship in Artificial Intelligence for Rare or Under-Resourced Languages at Inalco
Inalco, the National Institute of Oriental Languages and Civilizations, is inviting applications for a fixed-term Junior Professorship in "Artificial Intelligence for Rare or Under-Resourced Languages". This position offers a reduced teaching load and the possibility of tenure as a full professor after evaluation. The deadline for applications is September 2, 2024, and the appointment is set to begin no later than December 31, 2024.
The successful candidate will join ERTIM, Inalco's research team specializing in Natural Language Processing (NLP), and will focus on under-resourced languages. They will be expected to design and develop research for the analysis and processing of these languages, and to conceptualize and supervise necessary pre- and post-language modeling tasks. The Junior Chair professorship has a prospect of tenure.
The person recruited will also participate in discussions within the institute on the use of Artificial Intelligence in teaching and research for languages and for areal studies based on oriental language sources. They will be involved in the development of teaching tools for language teachers and methodological tools for students and researchers unable to undertake fieldwork in person.
The teaching load will be 64 hours in the first year, 96 hours in the second and third years, and 128 hours in the fourth and fifth years. The Inalco NLP Master’s is co-accredited with Sorbonne Nouvelle University and Paris Nanterre University, and leads to careers in data science, NLP development, computational linguistics, etc.
