The Research Training Group 2853 ‘Neuroexplicit Models of Language, Vision, and Action’ at Saarland University, Germany, is offering up to 8 PhD positions for Fall 2025. These positions are part of a growing research center that aims to advance the state of the art in natural language processing, computer vision, and planning and reinforcement learning.

Neuroexplicit models integrate neural and human-interpretable models to overcome the limitations of each. The RTG will grow to 24 PhD students by 2025, making it one of the largest research centers on neuroexplicit models worldwide.

  • Funding for four years at the TV-L E13 100% pay scale
  • Start date: September 2025
  • Joint supervision by two PhD advisors
  • Opportunities for interdisciplinary research

The RTG is part of the Saarland Informatics Campus, a leading center for research in computer science, AI, and NLP in Europe. The campus brings together 900 researchers and 2500 students from 81 countries.
