Exciting Opportunity: NSF-funded Postdoctoral Fellowship in Human-Centered Reinforcement Learning
We are thrilled to announce an open postdoctoral research fellow position at Columbia University, supported by the National Science Foundation. The project, titled “Human-Centered Reinforcement Learning for Personalized Nutritional Coaching,” focuses on developing novel approaches to human-aligned reinforcement learning. The goal is to learn dialog structures for health coaching that balance optimal information collection with intuitiveness and logical conversational structures as perceived by humans.
The research will encompass methodological and applied aspects of reinforcement learning, inverse reinforcement learning, and aligning RL with human preferences, natural language processing, and human-computer interaction. The fellow will work under the supervision of Principal Investigator Lena Mamykina and Co-Principal Investigator Iñigo Urteaga, in collaboration with the project’s research team.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in reinforcement learning, natural language processing, and human-computer interaction. They should be passionate about interdisciplinary research and have a keen interest in applying their skills to real-world problems in health and wellness.
