Exciting Postdoctoral Opportunity at Boston University: Join the TIN Lab!
Boston University’s Department of Linguistics, in collaboration with Computer Science and Data Science, is looking for a talented Postdoctoral Associate to join Professor Najoung Kim’s TIN Lab in Fall 2024. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals with a background in Artificial Intelligence, Natural Language Processing, Computational Linguistics, Cognitive Science, or related fields.
As a Postdoctoral Associate, your primary responsibility will be to lead a research project aimed at developing detailed evaluation protocols for AI technology in the domain of academic AI research. This will involve building baselines and designing human studies to estimate the capacities of the current best models. You will work closely with Professor Najoung Kim, Sebastian Schuster (UCL), and two PhD-level graduate students.
In addition to your research duties, you will have the opportunity to engage with Boston University’s broader academic community, spanning Linguistics, Computer Science, and the Center for Computing & Data Sciences, as well as academic communities in Boston and New England. You will also have regular opportunities to connect with the community at UCL.
To be considered for this position, you must hold a PhD degree at the start of your appointment and have hands-on experience in building systems that use language models or leading human annotation efforts. Desirable qualifications include publications or prior research experience in compositional generalization, data-efficient training methods, language model evaluation, and general-purpose prompting techniques.
The Postdoctoral Associate will be based in Boston University, with the possibility of being physically located in one of the office spaces in 621 or 665 Commonwealth Avenue, subject to space availability. This is a one-year position with the expectation of renewal for a second year, contingent on satisfactory progress. The 12-month compensation for this position will be $90K-100K USD, commensurate with experience.
