A PhD studentship is available at the University of Southampton to develop a sustainable, lifelong on-device robot learning system.

The project, titled ‘Resource-efficient lifelong robot learning,’ aims to address the challenge of equipping robots with the ability to learn a growing set of tasks over their operational lifetime.

  • Key challenges include catastrophic forgetting and the stability-plasticity dilemma.
  • Recent advancements in lifelong and continual learning have proposed strategies such as regularization, dynamic growth, and experience replay.
  • The project will focus on improving the trade-off between stability and plasticity while enhancing resource efficiency.
