Machine Learning PhD Studentship Opportunity in Healthcare Data Science at UCL Great Ormond Street Institute of Child Health

A fully-funded 3-year PhD studentship in healthcare data science is available at the UCL Great Ormond Street Institute of Child Health, starting from September 2024. The studentship, funded by GOSH Children’s Charity, will focus on applying machine learning algorithms to predict outcomes for paediatric organ transplant recipients. The successful candidate will work under the supervision of Prof Stephen Marks, Dr Rossa Brugha, and supported by Prof Mario Cortina Borja. The project aims to validate existing ML models and determine new variables that may have superior sensitivity and specificity when predicting future outcomes.

As a PhD student, you will be based in the UCL Institute of Child Health and work alongside a team of Data Engineers and Data Scientists from the NHS, Academia, and Industry. You will learn about all aspects of healthcare-related ‘big data’, including national registries and modern hospital records, systems for data sharing, and testing and developing ML models on real-world datasets. The studentship provides a starting stipend of £21,237 per annum and covers the cost of tuition fees based on the UK (Home) rate. Applications are open until May 31, 2024, and the interview date is yet to be confirmed.
