The University of Glasgow is offering a fantastic opportunity for a Research Assistant/Associate to work on a project that involves using machine learning to read and understand cancer research papers. The goal is to automatically catalogue the meaning of different cancer mutations and how they may affect patients’ treatments. This project is a collaboration with the Griffith Lab at Washington University at St Louis, which manages the CIViC database, a resource used by clinicians and researchers worldwide to search for knowledge on cancer mutations. The successful candidate will have the chance to develop various information extraction techniques and will not need any background knowledge of biology or medicine.
