The MaLGa Summer PhD School, organized by the Machine Learning Genoa Center, is offering a comprehensive course on the Theoretical Foundations of Machine Learning (TFML). This course, held from June 23 to June 27, 2025, at the DIBRIS/DIMA building in Genoa, Italy, will delve into the mathematical framework and key results in Machine Learning Theory.
Key topics include:
- Statistical learning theory
- Empirical risk minimization and regularization
- Linear and nonlinear models, including neural networks and kernel methods
- Optimization aspects, such as stochastic gradient methods and backpropagation
- Error analysis from both statistical and approximation theory perspectives
The course will be taught by Ernesto De Vito, Lorenzo Rosasco, and Silvia Villa, with additional advanced topics covered in a half-day workshop by Nicolo’ Cesa Bianchi and Andrea Agazzi.
