MMSYM 2026: International Multimodal Communication Symposium

MMSYM 2026 in Leuven, Belgium, explores multimodal communication with a focus on embodied communication in interaction. Abstract submissions open from 15th November 2025.

The 3rd International Multimodal Communication Symposium (MMSYM 2026) will be held in Leuven, Belgium from 9-11 September 2026. The symposium focuses on multimodal communication, integrating multimodality into linguistics and cognitive science.

The main theme is ‘Embodied communication in (inter)action’, with topics including:

  • Gesture-speech interaction & integration
  • Multimodal language processing
  • Multimodal corpus development
  • Machine and deep learning techniques applied to multimodal data

Abstract submissions are welcome from 15th November 2025 until 1st March 2026 via OpenReview.net. Keynote speakers include Pamela Perniss, Elisabeth Zima, Stefan Kopp, and Wim Pouw.
