PhD Position in Fairness in Multimodal Machine Learning at Aix-Marseille University
Aix-Marseille University is offering a PhD position in the Machine Learning Group QARMA at the Computer Science Lab. The project aims to develop fair multimodal machine learning models in collaboration with neuroscientists. The successful candidate will work on defining biases in the multimodal setting and detecting them with respect to the hypotheses on the joint distributions over modalities. The project will also focus on developing new theoretical results in the multimodal aspect of fair ML and well-founded and scalable multimodal fair learning algorithms with empirical studies on real datasets from the field of neuro-imaging. The position is available for 3 years starting September 2024 or later.
The selection criteria include a master degree in machine learning, experience in the use of machine learning with multimodal data, strong communication, data presentation and visualization skills, and strong motivation to advance the project by pro-actively developing personal ideas.
To apply, candidates should send a cover letter, a complete academic CV, master’s transcripts, a sample of scientific output, and the e-mail contacts of at least two referees who have agreed to provide a reference letter. Review of the applications will start on the 15th of August at the latest and the position will remain open until a suitable candidate is identified. A first round of interviews is expected to be held no later than the 15th of September and will be held remotely.
