Public Webinar: Analyzing Stance with Mixed Methods
Join Dr. Katharina Pabst’s public webinar on July 18 to explore a new framework for analyzing speaker stance using mixed methods.
A public webinar titled ‘Using mixed methods to analyze stance: A variationist approach’ will be held on Friday, July 18, from 2:15 pm to 3:45 pm CEST.
Dr. Katharina Pabst from Radboud University Nijmegen will introduce a framework for coding speaker stance developed with colleagues from the University of Toronto.
- The framework combines insights from variationist sociolinguistics and pragmatics.
- It is based on pragmatic tests that offer a replicable way of capturing stance quantitatively.
- The talk will discuss challenges and opportunities of using this framework, as well as its implications for the study of language and social meaning.
