Participate in the Sci-ImageMiner Competition 2026, part of ICDAR 2026, to extract information from scientific figures in Materials Science through tasks like figure classification and visual question answering.
The 1st Sci-ImageMiner Competition is organized as part of the ICDAR 2026 Competition track. It focuses on information extraction from scientific figures in Materials Science, specifically quantitative plots from Atomic Layer Deposition and Etching (ALD/E) research.
The competition includes four tasks:
- Figure Classification: identify the chart or figure type
- Data Table Extraction: reconstruct the underlying tabular data from quantitative plots
- Figure Summarization: generate concise, factual summaries of key trends
- Visual Question Answering (VQA): answer scientific questions requiring reasoning over figure content
Teams can participate in any subset of tasks. A trial dataset is available now, and the full dataset will be released in stages.
