HIPE 2026 Shared Task on Person-Place Relation Extraction

Participate in HIPE 2026 shared task on extracting person-place relations from historical texts. Registration deadline: 23 April 2026.

The HIPE 2026 shared task invites participation in the extraction of person–place relations in multilingual historical documents. The task aims to enable finer-grained analysis of entities and support the accurate reconstruction of individuals’ geographical and temporal trajectories.

Participants are required to develop systems that determine whether a relation holds between a person and a location mentioned in a document and classify its temporal scope. The task is designed for both generative AI systems/LLMs and traditional classification approaches.

  • Two evaluation profiles: Accuracy Profile and Efficiency Profile.
  • Training and test data from historical newspapers in English, German, French, and Luxembourgish.
  • Registration deadline: 23 April 2026.
  • Evaluation period: 5–7 May 2026.
  • Workshop venue: CLEF conference, 21–24 September 2026, Jena, Germany.
