Sci-ImageMiner Competition 2026: Scientific Figure Understanding

Participate in the Sci-ImageMiner Competition 2026 to extract information from scientific figures. Four tasks: Figure Classification, Data Table Extraction, Figure Summarization, and Visual Question Answering.

The 1st Sci-ImageMiner Competition is calling for participants to extract information from scientific figures in Materials Science, focusing on quantitative plots from Atomic Layer Deposition and Etching (ALD/E) research.

This competition is part of the ICDAR 2026 Conference track, taking place from 30 Aug to 04 Sep 2026 in Vienna, Austria. The competition includes four tasks:

  • Figure Classification: Identify the chart or figure type.
  • Data Table Extraction: Reconstruct tabular data from quantitative plots.
  • Figure Summarization: Generate concise summaries of key trends.
  • Visual Question Answering (VQA): Answer scientific questions requiring reasoning over figure content.

A trial dataset is available now, with the full dataset to be released in stages. Evaluations will be conducted on Codabench, with per-task leaderboards.

Important dates include trial data release on 8 December 2025, evaluation start on 3 March 2026, and paper submission deadline on 17 April 2026.
