Fully funded 3-year PhD/Postdoc positions on LMLM at ITU, focusing on enhancing language models with linguistic insights, starting September 2026.

Fully funded 3-year PhD/Postdoc positions are available at the NLPnorth research group in the Data Science section of ITU, starting September 2026. The project, Linguistically Motivated Language Models (LMLM), aims to enhance language models by incorporating linguistic levels to mitigate shortcut learning.

Key responsibilities include:

• Developing LMs that integrate internal word structures, word, and syntax levels.
• Evaluating models using standard metrics, benchmarks, and linguistically oriented benchmarks.

Applicants will be supervised by Rob van der Goot and a co-supervisor. The positions are funded by Carlsberg (https://www.carlsbergfondet.dk/en/what-we-have-funded/cf25-1861/).
